I'd love to get this. Can anyone confirm if the feature NIGHTMARES was really composed of unaired eps from this series ? I knew it was a slightly beefed up version of a TV project but had never heard that it was compiled from DARKROOM as the link says.
I feel like an oldtimer because I remember it being on ABC on Friday nights in the early eighties. Recently ordered a bootleg of it in fair quality and have to say, not only did the stories hold up, but I think this may have been the darkest show in television history. That episode with the homeless given alcohol to weaken the pain on getting his legs hacked off... I don't think that has been surpassed! While everyone is talking about this "forgotten" program, does anyone here remember the series the "Next Step Beyond" because that's another one that used to creep the life out of me when I was a kid...
WOW! Thanks for the post!! I am tempted to grab a copy, but in all honesty, I have the whole series on DVD-R and it is probably good enough for me!
God, I totally remember the intro but don't remember any specific episodes! I know I must have watched this but don't know when. I think I might have to buy it. Does anyone know of an Australian site for DVDs that has good prices? I just ordered a couple of DVDs from Burn.com.au that had some great prices but now I'm hoping I don't end up with DVD-Rs.
Wasn't that a spin off from the old ONE STEP BEYOND program from the 50's ? I vaguely recall this. Anybody know if the DARKROOM set would have trouble with speed up due to PAL playback on a region 1 player ? I can play multi region discs but wasn't sure of the format on the Madman DARKROOM set.
Thanks for the heads up. I have been looking for a good price on this set and this beats EzyDVD and FBO by almost half!! Total was about $17.50 shipped to the US.
Has anyone's shipped yet from DVDCrave/Moviesplus? My order has been stuck at "processing" for the last 3 days.
Talk about an unexpected release!! I received my copy yesterday, thanks for the heads up on this + DVDCrave w/ $10 off!! I go way back with this one and have had a vhs dub of a rare airing on SciFi that I got years ago from a member here. Considering the niche appeal, I was absolutely impressed with the quality on the dvd!! Good menus and the image & sound are a big leap over what I have on vhs, though not jaw-dropping still. The audio used at the very end of the episode "catnip" traumatized me as a kid in 81, the vhs dub was a bit hissy, drowning the effect, but the dvd brings it back clear!! I realize now it was very Fulci. I won't get rid of the vhs since it has newer, 90's interview segments with the creators that played between commercials. But, to make room for these interviews, SciFi cut out little preview teaser tidbits that played with each episode when they originally aired. Those are all included in-place on the dvd :glasses:
I wonder if you got that from me back when we were trading. BTW: Haven't talked to you in ages, Gunner, nice to see you post!! Your post made me think twice about buying it. I might just order it now!
Still waiting on mine to ship. I ordered on 12/19 and it still says processing. Must have gone out of stock right when I ordered it.
Just got mine today,a late Christmas present from a friend.I'm really excited to revisit these, haven't seen them in years.
Just received the R4 DVD set yesterday. I haven't seen many of these episodes since I was a kid. And I'm pretty sure I've never seen some of the episodes. The press booklet was an interesting read...especially for the stories that were never made.
