This popped up out of nowhere. I'm going to check it out today mainly because Kate Beckinsale stars. I'll post once I've watched it.

Looks good. My brother keeps asking if I saw this trailer. You are the first person who has even mentioned this other than him.

The film was really slow. Never quite building up the scary atmosphere/tension it was trying for. It also felt like the movie couldn't decide whether it was a ghost story or psychological drama. There were only about half a dozen people in the theater with me which isn't surprising considering I hadn't even heard about the film until it opened yesterday. Also about 90% of the film featured just three characters. All in all this one is better to wait for home video. It was a little strange seeing Kate with blonde hair too.

It sounds like the film's title might have been a self fulfilling prophecy.

    Haven't seen the movie.
But lets guess the twist, from watching that trailer.
Either her family is actually dead, and she sees their ghosts, or SHE is a ghost? ;)
Am I right or wrong? ;)

I don't really want to "spoil" anything for those that still wish to see this but your guesses are incorrect. This wasn't directed by M. Night Shyamalan.

This one slipped past me, but reviews have been unkind. Will wait for video.

Anyone looking for a fair glimpse at Kate, there's not any fan service at all in this. So let me get that out of the way.

I came into this about as cold as you could get, not having seen the trailer nor get any inclining of a plot (besides the somewhat obvious from the title) and I enjoyed it. I don't much like the recent ghost films with their over the top scares (more often than not just bad CGI), and I got some cold feet when I sat down in the theaters and that realization came over me. But I could count on one hand the number of CGI scenes, and those are just because I know they'd have to be in our modern era. Instead everything could have been done with tricks out Melies's studio 100 years ago if you wanted to. There was a workman like approach to its plot which created a nice build as well. There were quite a few surprises to me, and I can usually predict plots, so I came away rather satisfied. I think it's good counter programing as opposed to today's over produced but lifeless films like Crimson Peak which was all sheen but no surprises.

It was a good clean horror film and it's too bad it's getting dumped without any fan fair. Kate's damn good in it and it's clear she did this because it was a plum role.

I haven't seen it yet and I so want to. I've been avoiding the spoilers in this thread. I think Kate Beckinsale is one damn good actress. Thanks for your honest evaluation bud. I too love when a film comes out without any fanfare and its just a good story. I sort of feel that way about What Lies Beneath with Harrison Ford and Michele Pfeiffer. Great ghost story, excellent acting and I knew nothing about the film and simply loved it. Come to think of it, that was pretty strange for a Robert Zemeckis film. He is the type of director Hollywood loves to promote.

UPDATE - It's actually playing at my local theater. I am going first thing this weekend to see it.

Okay, I saw this tonight with my brother. Just like X-Human stated, I came away fairly satisfied. It's a solid film without much fanfare. I differ a bit from X-Human by the fact that there really isn't anything new here. For me personally, there weren't any surprises. I will say that Kate Beckinsale is quite good and there are several creepy moments in the film. It was well directed and the cast was pretty decent. For me, it has a 1970's vibe to it. I reminds me of a cross between Burnt Offerings and The Sentinel in it's feel.

What a shame. They really dumped this film into obscurity. It lasted one week at my main theater, and now sits in my "cheap" theater for $3 at seat.

DVD only release on December 20th. Don't see any listing for a blu-ray.

    Well, that's disappointing!

    (...I'll go show myself out.)

But these usually show up on Blu in Europe like Holidays or even 4K like Neon Demon.

That fucking sucks. Talk about a bunch of bullshit. I want a blu release. First they dump it into theaters and now this.
