With Halloween quickly approaching, I wanted to run some more contests on the site. I'm thinking it will be for registered (i.e. forum) members only. I have a closet full of prizes that need homes - dvds, posters (some autographed), and more misc. stuff. Any ideas for contests? Should it be another popularity contest, where I just pick the forum members that I like the most? A trivia contest like I used to do? What do you guys think? Peace!
:sleepy: That sounds really boring. We could have public voting for winners. I could enforce it by requiring that anyone who votes has been a member for 6+ months. That way we don't have people making new accounts to throw off the voting. Or maybe we could do like a bikini contest or something. Then again, Rhett may have the edge on that one. :eek1:
Well, I was being sarcastic. But I guess it's hard to tell these days. I actually think the voting thing is a good idea.
I reckon it depends on what the contest is supposed to achieve. If it's just to clear out the closet, send things out to people you like. If it's just to award people who are liked by other people then I guess you could vote, I reckon we already know the three or four people whould would win a popularity contest though. Dave, why don't you just send your entire closet to Luna?
Perhaps: users post a DVD review up in a certain timeframe. Then have a poll after the time passes with all the reviews in it, and have the population vote for the best REVIEW. Not the best film, best liked person etc... the best written/presented review.
Holy shit, no way I'd win that. Maybe most loathed. Which would be a real twist. Vote the most disliked, and then send them prizes. Maybe it would make them happier

hmm--I think for a site with as much exposure as this one--something other than a popularity contest might be in order--I dont know it just seems sort of...insular?
i think the girls on this board don't need anything. let's have a contest to see who has the most hangie-downie ball sack or longest scrotum if you will.
It's really just an inside joke. We did a contest in the past and awarded some prizes to people that we (we being the mods) felt were the best posters here. Most were good sports about it, but many felt it was just a popularity contest.
Why don't we have a contest where everyone posts a link to their DVD collection and we vote on who has the best one? Of course, it wouldn't be based on the quantity, but the overall quality.
Because some of us don't have an online list? Heh heh. I've never bothered to set one up, and I'd also guess we have most of the same things.
