Damn...they stamped that release date pretty quick. I'm probably not going to pick it up at all. Neither format will do the visuals justice. And it wasn't a good enough movie to warrant me buying it otherwise. And I'm not delving into the 3D technology until they perfect and mass produce the sans glasses one's.
sounds kind of like superbit, but for blu-ray. "superduperbit" or maybe "blu-perbit" anyway, i put that i'll wait for the special edition. if they wanna commit the entire disc space to the movie, then thats great, but there's nothing stopping them from releasing it as a *gasp* multi-disc set. but who knows, i may not get around to picking it up until i adopt some next gen 3d system in my place. i just dont think the movie will hold up well enough in 2d.
Yeah fuck that, I'm not getting this. Sure the 3-D was dope shit but I don't really care about the narrative enough to sit through this again. The story and acting was pretty goddamn sub-par and incredibly generic to say the VERY LEAST. It was like Fern Gully in 3-D. The 3-D was great but the film itself was mediocre AT BEST. ~Matt
I should add to that...as banal as many of his films may be, I DO love James Cameron. I was just seriously unimpressed with Avatar. Such a ridiculous amount of hype for such a mediocre film. ~Matt
I finally checked the film out last week and I thought it was very good. Sure the story wasn't complex but it didn't need to be. It had allot going for it already that it didn't need a convoluted plot. Everything you needed was in it's themes and subtext. Lets not kid ourselves and pretend it was 2012. it deserves much more credit then that.
Will be avoiding this release. Didn't like it at all, and I'm still hoping 3-D is only a trend again...
Neh. Never saw Avatar, have no interest in watching it. There's just so many better ways to spend 3 hours for me. Watching fucking grass grow being one of them
Flick was great in IMAX, but since most of that was the awesome 3-D and home 3-D sucks hairy ass, I'll pass. Not sure how this film will hold up when stripped of it's glitter, some parts were cool, but others were moan-inspiring.
As much as I loved the theatrical experience, I imagine that I would probably watch the extras more times than I would the actual film - provided, of course, that the extras are of a decent (T2 or Abyss) level of quality. So, unless the movie-only release is really cheap, I am waiting for the special edition.
what i will do is probably just get the bare bones release on dvd not blu-ray then get the extras packed special edition for blu-ray the end of the year
Yeah this release is such a joke and I love how they are making it seem okay because they want to make sure it has the best quality audio and video. Many other release do the same thing! The difference is they aren't cheap and include an extra disc with the extras on it. The best is the fact that this is getting released on Earth Day and everyone who buys it buys a tree or something. That's great and all, but how is this good for the environment when the new release comes out and everyone tosses their old bare bones release in the trash. Anyways, as for the movie, I thought it was okay. Nothing spectacular but I didn't hate it either. I'll just wait until November and pick it up the special edition when I find it for a good price. I am not in any rush at all though to own this.
Well, you know, as with any bleeding heart it's the thought that counts. Really doesn't matter how effective anything they do is. It's not about the results.
What the person above me said. I want to watch grass grow with you! I don't like this movie at all. I got suckered into watching it at a theater.
I'll wait until the SE comes out. Not that I'm gonna buy the SE, but the barebones edition will surely be cheaper by then.
