My thing is more Peter Jackson, especially the likes of Bad Taste. It's creative. It also comments on the interest we all have in fast food. It has characters. It doesn't pretend to be anything it's not. It's not homophobic. (Yeah, Poultrygeist is homophobic.)

Poultrygeist is just toilet humor. As are most of Troma's in-home offerings after the mid-80's. Though I really liked Sgt. Kabukiman. That's fun childishness / immaturity.

As for Nekromantik versus the other films I mentioned: again, remember that Nekromantik actually does have functioning characters and a story. It's short but it's there.

Poultrygeist isn't just toilet humor though. It has a message to it and is quite clever. Some people just see the toilet humor and refuse to look deeper into the film. Poultrygeist is incredibly fun (and far, far, far superior to the tonally confused Kabukiman)

And homophobic? It makes fun of EVERYONE. The fast food industry, protesters, black people, white people, rich people, native americans, religion, fat people, muslims, animal fuckers, chickens, zombies ETC.

Looks like it went over your head.

    In your dreams.

Now... To the issue of at-hand of Poultrygeist allegedly being anything other than a bunch of crap its makers slung at a wall hoping something would stick: just because something announces itself in the key of satire does not make it intelligent. Nor does it even make it satire. It's just a string of jokes. And there is always such a thing as bad-bad taste. Try learning from someone like John Waters, who has actually been making trash and exploitation films longer than Kaufman and has probably out-gross-out'd him more than 20 years earlier.

And I don't ever want to hear the King Bullshit Excuse of all King Bullshit Excuses: they made fun of / "satirize"d everyone / everything. If you know anything about the world we live in, you know that not everyone is treated equally in society. Gay people aren't being let in on jokes about them- they're being shut out. How would a straight person know what the fuck was funny about being gay? Name one thing you know about gay issues. What do straight people know about being loaded into concentration camps in Chechnya because of their sexual orientation? Nada. When was the last time a straight person was tortured, beaten within an inch of their lives, sodomized with blades, sticks, and coathangers, burned, shot, mutilated, and murdered for being straight? Never. And, yeah sure- in America, gays have it easier than trans people. Not much of any comfort since red states will be trying to undo our marriage rights for DECADES to come. Don't think our fight is anywhere near over. Yours? You never had one. If Lloyd Kaufman can't figure out how to properly spoof gay issues, he doesn't deserve blind praise.

It takes a truly skilled person to handle satire. Don't tell me it's a button that's pressed with nothing more than intent. That's the same shit those morons defending PewDiePie tried to pull. (He's a comedian. Comedians can't tell bad jokes... unless they're Amy Schumer, because: she has a vagina and having a penis means you can't do anything wrong if people like you. Ask Donald Trump.)

Some people really need to learn that comedy can be automatically written but that doesn't make it good. Poultrygeist is a film on automatic, though. It is not the product of thoughtful writing, one way or the other. I'm sorry to say I can't be convinced otherwise - sorry, Zombie Dude - but I think it's a stupid toilet humor movie. Besides: the last 20-something years have seen an explosion of horror comedy. With so many different intentionally jokey movies - and the movies that are just impossible to take seriously (Texas Chainsaw "3D"; which I didn't hate, by the way) - I don't see why people cling so tightly to Poultrygeist. Other than the b.s. "it's so offensive and I'm so cool for watching it" factor. Give me Hobo with a Shotgun over this any day. Give me Tucker & Dale vs. Evil any day. Give me Jennifer's Body. Give Me Dead Snow 2. Give me House of 1,000 Corpses (if I have to take something over it). I haven't seen Shaun of the Dead or Zombieland, but I'll bet they're better too.

Modern day torture porn esthetic mainly. I'm fine with gore when it has more of a fantastic element and/or sense of humor. I don't have a hard line to this rule of mine. A lot of people know how much I hated the new Evil Dead remake, for example. ;)

I'm taking you off Ignore for the time-being so I can actually address a few of the points you're trying to make.

You claim that I have not held up my end of our deal. You may be right. I admit I haven't really been happy with the quality of my posts in the past couple days either. I'm just as critical of my own writing as you claim to be. Sometimes I get rushed, sometimes I don't bother to word things carefully.

The fact remains that it is odd that you think you have the right to police my tone in the discussion... of movies. If I say something too negative about a movie you like, that will trigger an angry response from you which you are basically saying you cannot hold back. You can't stop yourself flying off the handle with insults.

Is that not... the definition of being too sensitive? You expect me to see you as badass when all you're doing is saying whatever comes to your mind, not expecting to be held accountable for it. Meanwhile: you're lecturing me for saying whatever comes to my mind (sans insults and personal attacks) and claiming I need to be put in my place for it.

You are cheering yourself for doing to me what you claim I am doing. For making a discussion of film personal and diverting the focus of the discussion onto me rather than the movie.

    Not quite:
You told me my opinion was wrong. And that I was stupid for not seeing the movie's message. The phrase "it went over your head," which is a statement I have never used in response to a member of this board (because it is fucking rude), implies that I lack the intelligence to understand a body humor comedy.

More than a prompt for me to ask: how would you know that the film's jokes about gay people are not homophobic? How would you know they aren't?

What does it matter if the movie tries to make jokes about every type of person? It can still be homophobic. There is no blanket intention with a kind of joke in a movie that makes every joke not smug or intolerant.

It doesn't sound like I was butt-hurt at all... it sounds like you read me saying to you: "if DVD-fanatic-9 says Poultrygeist is homophobic, than he's calling me a homophobe for laughing at the gay jokes." Maybe you are a homophobe. Why don't you just ask me if I think that's a problem? For the record: I don't care. I'm gay and I have to deal with shitty people every day who hate me. Am I going to waste my time yelling at you, one person, because I think you're a homophobe? Or at a movie for normalizing it so that everyone thinks it's okay? You didn't make the movie. Why are you taking my opinion on this film so personally? I never said everyone who likes it has bad taste.

You fail to answer this question every time you lash out at me. Why does what I have to say about a movie bother you so much? I never said everyone who likes it is stupid or has bad taste. Look at all the talk about Nekromantik and what kind of gore each person considers too much. What kind of gross is too gross. Etc.

You really need to cut the shit. Because you really do not have the right to tell me what I can and can not say. The problem is the same as it's always been: you don't know how to read me, so you defer to "know it all." It's getting boring. If only baggio is giving your attack posts on me LIKEs now... Maybe more people are willing to give me the benefit of the doubt than you want to admit. Because I am fair. I might not always be fun to read, and I have to work harder on that - I admit, but I am fair.

I'm the same way; about the hard line. I just know it when I see it.

What was your problem with the Evil Dead remake again, by the way? I never saw much of your opinion and I despise that movie. (Mostly because they worked in religious stuff, they added a kind of moralizing element. Etc.) So I'm interested.

Why are there 3 pages of arguing about a Troma movie in the Arrow thread? I gotta turn off the thread notifications on this one.

We were talking about the different levels of gory and gross-out and how the two are different, though I suppose usually they're the same.

Troma came up because their degree is just about the highest in terms of the sheer amount of fluids and internal organs that take flight, get splattered on the walls, etc.

I get that, just so much hostility here suddenly. It got scary here quick, like on the Blu-ray.com Code Red thread whenever anyone asks Bill anything about anything. Minus the terrible spelling and grammar.

I've never been to Blu-ray.com but I've heard tale.

And I agree about the rest. I wish I had some authority to do something about that but there isn't even a function to report problem posts here anymore. (Didn't there used to be?)

I appreciate everyone self moderating and deleting their own inappropriate comments. It still should not have occurred and it is a violation of forum rules.

MisterTwister and Dvd-fanatic: You two are banned from this thread for 7 days. Don't care who started it. You both participated. Future attacks will get you permanently banned from this thread or the entire forum.

    Thanks.

LOL! Oh no, I'm not getting baited into THAT conversation again. Let's just say that a few of the board's more enthusiatic fans of the film did not particularly care for my mocking critique of it in two separate threads (one for the Evil Dead, and another on the director's follow-up).

Bull Moose has plenty. There isn't many people off the street willing to fork out that kind of cash.

Holy fucking shit! The HG Lewis set is gigantic! It's over a foot tall! I guess I didn't realize that it was supposed to look like a cereal box, and is the same size for authenticity.

Packaging-wise, this has to be the most gore-geous blu-ray release in my collection.
