The color is off on the Severin disc, so I can't imagine Arrow's not being an improvement.

Nah, Arrow wins easily. The biggest reason I never bought the Severin disc was the faded sepia-ness pervading the picture. It drained all the pinks, blues and reds. It was a travesty. This Arrow transfer looks just like the film that I remember.

I received the Django box set today ... and apparently this has been "recalled" by Arrow until further notice, but they aren't even officially saying why. The conjecture I've read on some other forums is that a late coming "rights issue" came up and they have been asking all reviewers to hold off on reviews for this and any retailers to not ship their stock out.

Mine has been shipped from Diabolik but not arrived yet.

Maybe they mastered one of the discs region free instead of Region A as intended?

Arrow have another sale starting today...

Interesting that the problem is with Blue Underground and Bill Lustig. o_O

I'm glad I was able to get the set before this nonsense. Arrow released a superb set as usual for both films, and it'll be a shame if more don't show the light of day in the future.

Yeah, I went with DeepDiscount and I'm kicking myself for not sticking it out with Amazon or ordered from Diabolik or Grindhouse Video when I had the chance.

To be honest I’m not totally sure this is Bill Lustig’s fault. This happened with Zombie years ago when Shriek Show did their 2-disc DVD and BU did a single-disc release. So this isn’t the first time an Italian company has screwed up their US rights.

Wasn’t there also some issue with Blood & Black Lace? Regardless, two different studios own the US rights.

But also glad I grabbed my copy on release day, so I can avoid this nonsense.

Yeah, Italian rightsholders seem to be particularly sketchy when it comes to either double-selling licenses or selling licenses for territories, in which, they don't actually hold the rights. I'm actually a bit surprised that this hadn't happened, sooner, with all of the former BU titles that Arrow has been picking up. It's not just BU, either. A few years back, prior to Grindhouse's Blu-Ray release, Raro announced plans to release Cat in the Brain. Grindhouse had to send a cease and desist because they own US rights to the film in perpetuity, and it turned out that Raro's rights only covered rest of the world, not the USA.

Maybe they can re-release the Django box set for the UK?

Arrow doesn't have have the rights for Django in the UK, that's why there was no dual territory release. They are doing a separate release for Texas, Adios though.

Arrow Candyman looks fantastic. I haven't seen the Shout version, but if you ordered Arrow you won't be disappointed in the transfer. I haven't looked at screenshot comparisons, but it seems substantially darker than the older UK transfer, with much-improved color saturation. And it looks fantastic and organic in motion.

Yeah it does look fantastic. Some of the colours just popped as well like clothing. I was very impressed.

Image also had a DVD on the way prior to Grindhouse's under their Euroshock Collection banner, to be released in July of 2002. Image had gotten the rights from Alfredo Leone, but he evidently didn't control US distribution (Grindhouse apparently owns it in perpetuity). The discs were pressed and were distributed before the whole thing was cancelled.

I hope they're not trying to recall copies of Django that have already shipped... according to the tracking info mine was shipped on the 6th, reached "JAMAICA NY INTERNATIONAL DISTRIBUTION CENTER" on the 7th , was scanned there again on the 8th and 9th and again today on the 18th, seems a bit strange.

It might just be because it's a center that processes international packages. When I get a registered mail package from overseas, it usually hits that same center and can sometimes just sit there for an extended period of time (customs clearance or something similar I guess) before it moves on to my address.
