As for the scan? Eh. There some damage here and there and it's soft. Any shot with a pan has jittery scanner noise.

Is it wrong I like this, though? And I don't like adult films. But the adult part of this only appears now and then with only one real major scene. Otherwise it's a brutally slow, almost 2-hour, Italian zombie film.

Super happy to have it up on the shelf with my other D'Amato. I don't remember liking Porno Holocaust nearly as much - it was pretty tasteless. But I'll pick that up too when it comes.

Seems Code Red and transfers of Italian stuff is pretty hit-or-miss. Is he licensing Italian scans or is he getting them done stateside?

    These have to be licensed.

I think it is intentionally going the Family Honor route. Maybe in 7 years it finally sees the day of light.

Watched Monster Shark last night and still loved it. It doubles as my favourite Michael Sopkiw and favourite Lamberto Bava.

Now, on to what matters... the technical presentation. I read a comment stating that Erotic Nights of the Living Dead has some jittery motion noise, and I noticed the same thing with The Last Hunter. I noticed no such issue with Monster Shark. It looks - and sounds - great. There's the odd vertical line and a couple of pops, but these are no doubt present in the source material and are not intrusive at all. Dialogue has good clarity, and the image doesn't have that waxy look of lousy old Italian scans. Thumbs up!

I totally missed that Dark Force has The Backlot Murders available. I definitely want that.

Anyone know if this is going wide retail, or Dark Force only?

Dark Force only. They have no retail distributor anymore for newer releases.

As much as I love the movie, I wasn’t aware that there were two versions. What are they differences between the two?

Actually, there were a couple things that were slightly different than I remembered them. I may be misremembering, or I may have blinked and missed it when I watched Monster Shark a few days ago, but I seem to recall Sopkiw's annoying assistant dying onscreen.

    By the way...

I couldn't remember where I'd read said comment. And then I found it a few comments above my own:

Oops! And having watched Erotic Nights myself, I did noticed the jittery scanner noise - once in the morgue scene, and once when Laura Gemser walks briskly past the graveyard. I did not notice it in every panning shot, though.

As for the movie itself, I found myself having more fun with it than I expected. The basic plot, starting with two of the principles being in an insane asylum and then doing the story as a flashback telling why they're there, worked for me. The tropical location conjures up a nice, spooky atmosphere, and the look of the zombies, while simple, is quite effective. And then there's the adult material... I found myself amused by the champagne bottle scene, but the lingering shot of Mark Shanon's genital warts made me physically ill. Other than that, I had a good time with Gemser, Shanon, and George Eastman.

Just a quick heads up that the big cartel store is back up with a lot of titles on sale. No Butcher Baker Nightmare Maker though.
