    Both arguments have logic.
However, from a medical standpoint(which I have researched and studied at the University level), it is undeniable that some drugs such as steroids and prednisone variants batter the immune system and even in medical emergencies doctors often refrain from using potentially life saving drugs like prednisone due to their long term effects-immuno suppression, water retention, calcium loss leading to conditions such as arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. Therefore someone who would have used these drugs long term would be more susceptible of dying or suffering severe side effects from pneumonia(such as plural effusions etc) or other infections that might be relatively benign in non-users.
That being said, no one really knows the extent of Haim's drug use so it's impossible to draw a causal inference.
